Join Henderson County Public Library for an evening with Diane Carlson Evans, author of Healing Wounds: A Vietnam War Combat Nurse’s 10-Year Fight to Win Women a Place of Honor in Washington, D.C. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear Diane Carlson Evans share her powerful story and answer audience questions in a virtual author talk. The first 50 attendees to arrive at the library will receive a signed copy of Evans’ book.

Evans, a former Army nurse, played a pivotal role in establishing the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, dedicated on November 11, 1993, after a decade-long campaign to honor the women who served during the Vietnam War. She will share her experiences as a 21-year-old nurse in Vietnam, the challenges faced by returning veterans, and the journey to recognize women’s contributions alongside the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Three Fighting Men sculpture.

Evans has remained an active advocate in the veteran’s community focusing on healing the wounds of war. She served under six Secretaries of Veterans Affairs on the Readjustment Counseling Services advisory board promoting services for veterans with PTSD. On January 2, 2025, she was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal, which is awarded to citizens who have “performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens.”
